The Devourers, Indra Das

★★★★★

A wholly original novel set in India following the story of some wayward werewolves as they search for purpose and love across centuries and continents.

Much like Interview with the Vampire, the story begins with a half-werewolf approaching a history professor with the greatest story ever told, a true story of centuries old werewolves. Then the reader is pulled through multiple flashbacks and perspective changes as the stories begin to unfold.

What made this book entirely different than one I'd read before was the dream-like quality of the storytelling, occasionally with purple prose but mostly grounded in the five senses including the little used taste and smell.

WARNING: the novel can be downright disgusting at times with incessant mentioning of piss, shit, stench, semen, drool, blood, fat, hair, and more. For those with weak stomachs and a sensitive constitution, beware.
