The Monstrumologist, Rick Yancey
“Tonight you will witness the stuff of nightmares. You will see things that will shock and appall you. that will freeze you down to your God-fearing marrow, but if you do everything I say, you may survive to see the next sunrise, but only if you do everything I say.”
This book is an outright gore-fest. I absolutely loved it. Rick Yancey writes with such precision, clarity and detail that the monsters are literally jumping off the pages and into my imagination. It's like you can smell, hear, feel, taste, and see the fear, blood, gore, and scientific fascination within this book.
I was gripped by the FIRST CHAPTER and although it takes a while before the reader is given enough plot details to make a coherent assumption of the ending, it was still a charging read through and through.
I was under the impression this book was for a younger audience, but was proved totally incorrect. Simply because the main character of the book is a small boy of twelve DOES NOT mean the material he endures is for a younger audience. At every turn there will be blood, guts, monsters, and absolute horror. Rick Yancey made a promise in the opening excerpts that he was delivering monsters and he definitely does not disappoint in his descriptions, actions, and torment.
A gripping read that took me only a few days to finish, a definite MUST-READ for any horror enthusiast or budding monstrumologist.
